Constant Reminder

I had a good conversation with a friend that I hadn't spoken to since my college days.  He complimented me on my "fame" and told me how proud he was of me about how I looked and what I was doing.  He talked about how different the music was and how even though he didn't listen to a lot of "religious" music, mine spoke to him and he could listen to it.  I tried to explain to him, probably unsuccessfully, that even though this was what I wanted, I couldn't take any of the credit for what I have.  The music that I have comes from outside of me.  It comes from the presence of God and his influence on my life.  I've had people that I admire (Producer, Bassist, Jazz MONSTER Alphonza Kee) compare my chord changes to John Coltrane and other "Ouster" type artists.  I don't consider myself on the same planet as these greats. But its becoming more and more obvious to me that God is no respecter of persons.  He'll use whoever is willing to go with him.  He can use me however he sees fit.  I'm having  a GREAT time now.
It was awesome talking to my boy, and this was yet another reminder that God is doing this - not me.  I have been playing music since I was eleven years old.  But nothing of what I was taught comes close to what I have now.  Its amazing to me that different people listen to the music and hear different things - even different musical styles.  I've heard people call this reminiscent of Jazz, R&B, Funk, ect.  It speaks to different people in different "musical voices"? Not that I'm making the comparison, but what comes to mind is the day of Pentecost when the holy Ghost fell upon Peter and other the men gathered in prayer in Acts 2: 6 - 9  "Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?" These men heard different things from men all speaking in the language of the spirit of God.  And even though these men were from different countries and cultures, they heard a language that spoke to them, that they could understand.  The spirit of God is using this musical gift, this "Nouveau Praise" to reach people in ways I couldn't imagine.  People are hearing what speaks to them in the "musical language" that appeals to them the most.  And its all the same music.  Another constant reminder of how God is in control of this.  I just need to relax and let it be... just enjoy the ride as my good friend The Reverend Doctor Maria Franklin has told me. Thank you Pastor for Sharing that with me.  Another constant reminder... God has this.

Sing along with me!

I started listening to the lyrics of the songs that I have written.  I'm currently putting together my favorite tracks for the live CD that we'll be recording someday.  As I listened... I mean really took a serious listen to the words again. I realized that I'm ministering to myself with each song.  The song may not always be about my spiritual experiences, but more so how God is telling me to approach situations that come up in the lives of others or in my own life.  I had a prophet once tell me that I am supposed to be an evangelist and that my musical career will grow out of that.  I understood what they meant - as the prophet observed that I "do a lot of preaching in (my) songs".  That's not my calling, but I do get it.  The Prophet was trying to say that my music ministry is deeper than simply being a "Christian Entertainer" and that's never been my goal in the first place.  This music means something to me.  It does because it affects my life.  It affects my behavior. It affects how I think.  It ministers to me because the music addresses the basic way that we as human beings are supposed to function.  One of the songs that speaks to me the most is a track called "the blood".  The hook line is "I'm free by the blood Christ shed for me..."  The chains that the devil tries to put on us ALL have no power over us because of the Blood of Jesus.  Poverty, lack, fear, inferiority, hate, worthlessness... loneliness - NONE of that has the power to destroy because of the blood of Jesus.  We may have been born in human bodies, but once you are born again, your spirit is perfect - Like Jesus is perfect.  You may be chained to some attack that the Devil has tossed your way, but the blood of Jesus is remedy.  Its the key, its the solution.  You are no longer subject to the sin that used to OWN you (another line from the song).  But it has to start in your heart (mind), then it comes out of your mouth and then you'll see it in your life.  The world calls it self fulfilling prophecy.  The Bible says in Proverbs 18;21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." You gotta speak what you want to see.  The only difference between you and I is I'm singing it.  Sing along with me.  See that change in your life too!

Your blessings... your destiny... yours!

I read something online this morning from Tryrese Gibson.  I didn't know that the brother was saved!  But he dropped a bomb in my spirit this morning.  The Bible says we should NOT compare ourselves to others.  (amp. ver) "However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely."  We shouldn't spend our time looking at the lives of others and basing our successes or failures upon the lives of others.  The Parable of the Talents - Matt 25:15 " To one he gave five talents [probably about $5,000], to another two, to another one—to each in proportion to his own [a]personal ability. Then he departed and left the country...."  God gives us only what we can handle.  We shouldn't allow what's happening in someone else's life be our guide or our goal.  God gives us according to our individual ability.  Your highest achievable goal may not be what's best for me or even what I can handle.  But trusting God will take me to the place where I am filled to to fullest.  What Mr. Tyrese shared was that "God will never give you something that belongs to someone else..."  And as I listened to that, God hit me with something else.  "God will never give someone else something that belongs to YOU!"  What God has for you is for YOU.  And it will fulfill and satisfy you on a level beyond your imagination.  But it won't be what someone else has.  It will be what is PERFECT for you. These will be Your blessings... your destiny... everything that is yours!

Resist Project Video Promo

Wow... been a long time.  Please forgive me!  I have been buried in the "business" of music.  It is an annoying task where you have to convince people that the music that God has given you is worthy of their attention.  Audiences love the music.  People are being ministered to.  But since it doesn't sound like "JohnkirkP.HammondMcClurkinFredFranklinDonnieKee" they have to think about it.  So we are truly focused on "telling a story" which means I'll be traveling to every venue that will allow me to come sing God's praises.  The reason being to let everybody hear and experience the "nouveau praise" and show the industry's elite that this is real!  Hopefully we'll be coming to a place near you and soon!  I'm not discouraged. I'm more determined now than ever - so don't you worry.  The only difference now is every time you turn around you may be seeing my infectious smile gleeming back at you!  :D  see?  You smiled just then, I saw ya!  LOL.  God bless you.  Thank you for being patient with me... for believing in me and sticking with me. We'll have a new video shoot soon and I'll invite whoever can make it... We'll try to make sure everybody gets a cameo!  In the meantime, check out the video promo for the "Resist" project!  Lemme know whatcha think!

The Rest of the way

Yes, I am human... it did hurt my widdle feewins.  After a good many of the radio stations and music industry execs have brutalized my CD (One complained about the production, the other about my voice, somebody told me I needed a producer, someone else said I needed a song writer, etc.), I was hurt, but not discouraged at all.  Partly because I know how audiences react to my music... But MOSTLY because of the prophesy I got.  I was sitting in Church one morning and my Pastor asked if I would stand up for a minute.  He was praying and then he said "...I am putting the final pieces together now sayest the Lord.  And when I do it you'll know that I have done it because it won't cost you anything and it'll be without sweat.  And I'm gonna cause it to be published.  Not only just nationwide but worldwide, there will be other countries that will partake of it. You've gone as far as you can go, now I'm gonna go the rest of the way...." So no matter what they tell me.  If the people keep responding the way they are, I know that the music is moving them.  I'm not afraid to fail, I know this won't... but I am impatient as all get up!  I guess I'm just in a hurry to prove all the nay sayers wrong... or better still SHOW them that they are wrong.  What I need to do is get closer to God's presence... closer to his peace.  Just get out of the way and let him do what his is doing.  I'll let God go the rest of the way.

Don't Forget

I got a Revelation.  I was thinking about fraternity and college days.  We'd be 15 to 20 guys strong at whatever party was happening that week.  We'd have the attitudes on full blast, that confident... cool "if you touch me, you gotta deal with me AND all my brothers..." The attitude was "I Dare You!"  And even if we took a hit from somebody, the response wasn't fear!  It was "its ON now.  You gotta deal with my response AND the response of my brothers!"  Well I'm saved now.  Why is it when we... okay when "I" get a little bloody nose from the devil that I will shrink back from what God said???  Its the same as when we were in college.  You gotta deal with me AND the host the heaven.  With Jesus the son of the most High.  With GOD HIMSELF!  The next time that devil (fear, doubt, lack, sickness, depression, temptation) steps up, the response should be "What?  Are you serious??? Do you realize who I roll with? ITS ON NOW!  I walk with Jesus!  And even if I'm scared, HE'S NOT.  And if he's not scared and he's got my back... I ain't never scared (as we used to say)"  I guess I mean to say... we're not alone.  This battle is NOT ours, but the Lords.  We just have to stand unafraid because we trust God.  God has not given us a spirit of fear, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind..."  Don't forget who you rollin' wit!  LOL!
